Length:  5 pages--more if you include pictures which I hope you do.

Choose on the books from the Social Conditions section on the E Non-Fiction page, ideally, though not necessarily, from a book which relates well to the e-materials in the Jacob Riis book.  Have your alter-ego read the book, and react to it.  Think about ways your perspective as a 21st century, college student might react to this in a different way.  You can find a number of pictures available by searching Google Images.  There were hard times all over after the great depression of1893, as your searching will suggest to you.  Some possibilities for pictures are below:
You will need to be careful with some of these sources, as some of the pictures date from other than the gilded age, and others may not be from the United States.  Don't choose ones which are also found in your Riis Text.
