For Tuesday, DecemberFare well, Gilded Age
We're going to end this class pretty much as we began it--by spending a day at a World's Fair.  Actually, we'll visit two of them a mere 11 years apart.  The World's Columbian Exhibition in Chicago in1893, and the St. Louis World's Fair celebrating the Louisiana Purchase in 1904.  The image below link to websites on each.
Your alter-ego will have aged not quite 30 years by the time of the exposition in 1904.  And how the world has changed.  Powered air flight was the lastest in a series of technological marvels which would change the world forever.  Have your alter-ego prowl both fairs, recording what is most interesting to him or her.  You'll find plenty of links at both websites to tickle your fancy.

And thus it ends. I'll be around to receive your diaries until the end of the Final Exam Period.  If by any chance I'm not in when you drop by, my mailbox is on the Third Floor, and perhaps I'll also put a box outside the door in which to collect things.

I shall e-mail you to acknowledge that I've received your Journal and other materials.  Remember the final exam option if you wish a little "insurance".  I'm hoping to toss us a little party at the beginning of next semester so you can enjoy each other's work.  Bridges assignments will have places to deposit your book report, your report on How the Other Half Lives, and the Optional final, should you choose to do it.  Alternately, these can all be turned in at mswanson@rwu.edu.
